You do not have to be a limited business to register for UK VAT (Value Added Tax). VAT registration in the UK is open to various types of businesses, including sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, and even non-profit organizations. Whether you need to register for VAT depends on your business turnover.
If your business’s taxable turnover exceeds the VAT threshold set by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), currently £85,000 (as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021), you are required to register for VAT. However, if your turnover is below the threshold, you can still voluntarily register for VAT.
